What is IPD?

IPD stands for inter-pupillary distance. The interpupillary distance is the distance measured in millimeters between the centers of the pupils of the eyes. This measurement is different from person to person and also depends on whether they are looking at near objects or far away.

These are IPD and WD.

  • IPD - Inter-Pupillary Distance. This is the distance between your pupils.
  • WD - Working Distance. This is the distance your eyes will be from your working area with correct posture.

If you're looking for instructions on how to obtain these measurements, head over to our Measurements Guide page.

What is working distance?

Working distance is the distance between your eyes and the working area. This distance varies from person to person depending on your height, working style and other factors.

Why do we need an IPD photo from you?

Your IPD is very important to our custom Loupes production process. Without it, we cannot effectively create your custom-made loupes. All TTL Loupes require an IPD photo. Flip-up Loupes sometimes do not require an IPD photo as the telescopes on Flip-up Loupes can be adjusted. If you wish to have a prescription filled on your flip-up Loupes then you will need to submit an IPD photo with your order. Without knowing your IPD, we cannot effectively custom-build your loupes!

Why do we need your working distance?

Working distance is crucial to having good ergonomics and functionality with your Loupes. If the working distance on your Loupes is too far or too near then you will likely experience discomfort or difficulty effectively working. There are also several issues with vision that can occur with your Loupes if they are not designed at the proper working distance, so it is very important to know this information.
